People who have cats at home or who love animals know that cats have their own unique behavior. For example, if you're looking for your cat inside the house, you might find it on top of a cupboard or in another high place. We've also seen cats on the street behave in this way. Especially in the treetops or on top of a wall. Cats instinctively like to climb. But why?

One of the reasons is that they like to be in a high place. They can feel safe up high and can see their surroundings better this way. Another is the instinct to dominate territory.

In today's article, we will try to answer the question of why cats like high places, which we all have in mind or come to mind, and inform you.

Why do cats like high places?

One of the reasons why cats want to be in high places is the instincts left to them by their ancestors. When cats are in a high place, they can easily see their prey below and watch them comfortably. This gives them good territoriality and a good view. Another ancestral instinct is that when they are in a high place, they avoid becoming prey and protect themselves there. So for cats, the genetic instinct to climb high places gives them both a good view from above and a safe place to shelter from any possible situation. So if you have a cat at home, you're very likely to see it on top of the cupboard, on top of the fridge, or in any other high place in the house.

Climbers who reached the 2.5 km high summit of the Tatras Mountains, the highest point in Poland, encountered a cat on the summit. It was found that the cat was not afraid of humans, but no one could understand how and why the cat had climbed to the top of the mountain.
